Bobcats try to ride momentum into Milwaukee

Basketball Betting Lines

02/20/2010 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Charlotte Bobcats hope a big win over LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers can propel them in tonight's opener of a four-game road trip against the Milwaukee Bucks in Brew City.

Charlotte handed the Cavaliers a 110-93 setback on Friday night at home thanks to 29 points from Stephen Jackson and nine points and 12 rebounds from newcomer Tyrus Thomas, who was acquired from Chicago before the trade deadline. Charlotte sent guards Flip Murray and Acie Law and a future first- round draft choice to the Bulls for Thomas.

Theo Ratliff was acquired from San Antonio for a second-round selection in 2016 and finished with five rebounds and two blocks for the Bobcats, who have won three of four games and sit eighth in the conference standings.

"It's not so easy to attack the rim anymore, even though Theo missed a couple [blocks], everybody in the league knows he's coming. We haven't had that," Bobcats coach Larry Brown said. "Tyrus challenges shots and is athletic."

The Bobcats will also visit the Clippers, Jazz and Grizzlies, and are 7-19 as the guest this season.

Milwaukee has alternated wins and losses over its past five games and is coming off Friday's 91-85 win at Detroit. Newly-acquired guard John Salmons made a key three-pointer with 16 seconds remaining and finished with a team- best 19 points off the bench.

The Bucks acquired Salmons from the Bulls just before Thursday's trade deadline, sending forwards Hakim Warrick and Joe Alexander to Chicago. Milwaukee also got second-round picks in 2011 and 2012 in the deal.

"He was really good, especially considering he's not familiar with what we're trying to do out there" said Milwaukee head coach Scott Skiles about Salmons. "The guys were helping him out, but he's never been afraid to try and make plays and he made a big one for us tonight."

Ersan Ilyasova tallied 16 points and 12 rebounds off the bench for the Bucks, who were coming off a 127-99 loss against the Rockets on Wednesday. Milwaukee will put its 16-9 home record to the test this evening and is two games behind the Bobcats for the final postseason berth in the East.

The 2009-10 season series between Charlotte and Milwaukee is tied at a game apiece, with each club holding serve on the home floor. The Bucks have won 15 of the previous 20 matchups between the teams and four straight as the host.

Football Betting Lines

The 2009 AP NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year odds have been released and Denver Broncos' running back Knowshon Moreno has been made the opening favorite.

Bet NFL Sports Lines

Moreno was selected in the first round of April's NFL draft and is expected to carry the rushing load for the Broncos this season. And with Jay Cutler now in Chicago, Moreno might be expected to be Denver's entire offense.

Betting Lines from sports betting lines have made Moreno a 5/2 favorite to win this year's Offensive Rookie of the Year Award. Fellow running back Chris “Beanie” Wells (Arizona Cardinals) is right behind Moreno at 7/2, while Donald Brown (Indianapolis Colts) and receiver Michael Crabtree (San Francisco 49ers) are 5/1 to win. Quarterbacks Mark Sanchez (New York Jets) and Matthew Stafford (Detroit Lions) are 7/1 and 8/1, respectively.

A couple of players who present some value are Josh Freeman, Shonn Green and Darrius Heyward-Bey.

Freeman needs to beat out Byron Leftwich to become the starting quarterback of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers but if he does, he has a lot or raw talent and could use the weapons around him (i.e. Kellen Winslow Jr. and Antonio Bryant) to be very successful in his first season.

Green enters a crowded backfield in New York, but considering both Thomas Jones and Leon Washington are unhappy about their contract situations and might holdout, the former Iowa product could become the Jets' primary back.

Everyone was shocked when Al Davis took Heyward-Bey with the eighth overall pick in April's draft, but the kid has a tremendous amount of talent and if quarterback JaMarcus Russell takes the next step this year, the former Maryland product could blossom. Plus, Heyward-Bey will be looking to prove the people wrong who said Oakland should have taken Michael Crabtree with the No. 8 pick.

And if you're looking for a deep sleeper, check out Pat White at 30/1. He enters the Miami Dolphins vaunted “Wild Cat” offense and could be a big time playmaker.
